When you are searching for a realistic looking fire, vented gas logs are your best bet. These log sets can only be used in a properly functioning wood burning fireplace which requires vertical venting to the proper height through your roof.

Because of the chimney venting, these logs are designed to burn “dirty” which results in large, yellow flames that resemble exactly what is seen when burning wood. Vented gas logs create soot and carbon monoxide and therefore, they must operate with a chimney with the damper open to properly exhaust the fumes.
