Bevi Seafood Co. closed its doors, but a new seafood market will now take its place. Porgy’s Seafood Market is an ambitious seafood market and restaurant with a potentially game-changing approach. The new market is the new project for partners Carmo and Seafood Sally’s two of the top New Orleans seafood restaurants. Caitlin Carney and Marcus Jacobs are not only a couple but also the owners of Seafood Sally’s and Marjie’s Grill. Christina and Dana Honn, are the chefs and owners of Carmo.
The four got to know one another while they were both asking for the same uncommon Gulf fish from Anna Marie Shrimp. “Sometimes Marcus or I would trade off going down to pick up at the docks. We’d deliver to each other, as well as Mike Nelson over at GW Fins. Since then, we’ve been involved in some of the same organizations, like Audubon GULF,” says Honn.
Porgy’s is slated to open its door soon to Mid-City and will be a “one-of-a-kind spot for New Orleans.” They will have the typical Gulf seafood but will also carry a variety of fish that will include amberjack, mackerel, blue runner and porgy. If a fishers only catch 10 of a certain kind of fish, that is no problem, as they want to operate on a smaller scale.
Don’t worry Porgy’s will serve local favorites that Bevi once served. The seasonal boiled seafood, gumbo, po’boys and local oysters are not forgotten! They will also have a full bar and cocktail menu so you can have a drink while ordering your fresh seafood.
