This spring the 2023 Bayou Boogaloo will be held along the Bayou St. John both on land and water. This is the 17th edition of the festival which is bringing a good mix to the lineup this year. The top lineup includes Juvenile, Partners N Crime and DJ Jubilee. Local acts will also be there including Boyfriend, Bonerama, The Rebirth and Hot 8 Brass Bands, The Iceman Special, Bon Bon Vivant and The Rumble.
The Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo was founded in 2005 and is put on by the nonprofit Friends of Bayou St. John. The proceeds will go to preservation and improvements along Bayou St. John. The three-day weekend festival’s prices start at $25 and increase closer to the event. There is a three-day Canopy Club VIP pass which sells for $179 and includes access to a shaded area, private restrooms and free food and drink. Even if you enjoy the concert from the water, there still will be a ticket price. If you are going to enjoy the festival from a homemade barge, you will need to pay a $100 deposit and ticket fee. The deposit will be refunded once the barge is removed from the bayou.
This year will be the first year that the festival will include a comedy stage. Headliners for the comedy stage will include New Orleans-born Sean Patton. He lives in New York and filmed a comedy special at Tipitina’s last year. Others that will be included will be Rude Jude, Vincent Zmabon, Kymbra Li, Mark Caesar, Ukulele Jokes with Jo Palms and & Thomas Jones, Wait. What?, and Isaac Kozell & Geoffrey Gauchet.
Along with the two music stages and the comedy stage, there will be an arts market, kids’ tent, kids’ craft area, VIP area and food vendors. The full lineup includes Juvenile with Partners-N-Crime and DJ Jubilee, Yonder Mountain String Band, Boyfriend, Reverend Horton Heat, Rebirth Brass Band, The Iceman Special, Eddie 9V, Bonerama, Hot 8 Brass Band, People Museum, Bon Bon Vivant, The Rumble, The Low End Theory Players, Letrainiump, Tasche & The Psychedelic Roaches, Marcella Simien, Johnny Sansone Band, Dinny Skip, The Quickening, Them Ol’ Ghosts and NOLA School of Rock.
