It was announced by the Carnival in Covington Parade Committee that Mardi Gras 2024 will see a Lundi Gras tradition that has been around for over one hundred years. The Krewe of Bogue Falaya will be introduced this Carnival season with a parade theme of “School Daze in a Mardi Gras Haze.”
“It perfectly embodies Covington’s Mardi Gras traditions and its rich historical background,” said Kellie Osbon, a member of the Covington Business Association and Krewe member who attended the announcement.
The Krewe of Bogue Falaya will start the season off along with the Covington Lions and Mystic Krewe of Covington. It will have 600 members who will ride on twenty traditional floats. Of course, there will also be marching bands, horse groups, Saints Superfans, dancing groups and other marching clubs and organizations.
After the parades, Tammany Gras will start which will be fun for the whole family.“Now, there is an abundance of activities for families and friends to revel in throughout the day and into the evening,” says Osbon.
As with the Lundi Gras tradition, there will be a grand marshal who will be Grayhawk Perkins. Perkins is from Mandeville and is, a tribal storyteller, performer, musician and educator who has been a fixture of northshore culture for more than 25 years.
“It is one of my greatest honors to be the first grand marshal of the Krewe of Bogue Falaya. I know my ancestors and elders who went back and forth on that river are looking down and saying, Yay,” exclaims Grawyhawk.
