Vented Gas Logs
When you are searching for a realistic looking fire, vented gas logs are your best bet. These log sets can only be used in a properly functioning wood burning fireplace which requires vertical venting to the proper height through your roof.
Because of the chimney venting, these logs are designed to burn “dirty” which results in large, yellow flames that resemble exactly what is seen when burning wood. Vented gas logs create soot and carbon monoxide and therefore, they must operate with a chimney with the damper open to properly exhaust the fumes. The downside for some is that most of the heat escapes up the chimney with the fumes, as does a natural wood fire.
In addition, vented log sets generally require more fuel to operate than vent free sets. So, if you are looking for energy efficiency, vented log sets may not be your best choice.
For those who value most the ambiance of a natural wood burning fire, you will not be disappointed in today’s vented gas log sets.
