Slidell’s long-awaited Amazon delivery center is finally up and running. The $40 million, 140,000-square-foot facility on Town Center Parkway officially went online this week, with the first packages delivered to customers Wednesday, according to company spokesperson Daniel Martin.
Growing Operations and Job Opportunities
Amazon said the new center has already begun shipping orders and will steadily increase its package volume in the coming weeks and months. While the company has not confirmed the exact number of employees currently on site, Martin noted that more positions could open as operations ramp up.
“We have staffed up significantly to support the launch of the facility, and as we continue to ramp up operations over the coming weeks there will be additional opportunities,” Martin said in an email Friday.

A Delayed but Anticipated Opening
Amazon first announced plans to build the Slidell facility in 2021, with an original target opening of 2022. After several delays, the center has quietly opened its doors nearly three years later.
Delivery centers like Slidell’s play a key role in Amazon’s logistics network. Packages are received in bulk, sorted, and then loaded onto vans and trucks for final delivery to customers. The Slidell center currently serves Louisiana’s northshore region, though its service area may expand or shift depending on demand.
Amazon’s Expanding Footprint in Louisiana
The Slidell site adds to Amazon’s growing presence in Louisiana. The company reports creating more than 6,000 full-time jobs in the state since 2010, with new facilities helping to expand both employment opportunities and delivery speed for local customers.
For Slidell, the center represents not only a new employment hub but also a boost to the local economy as Amazon strengthens its logistics footprint across the Gulf South.
